Zoos in San Diego include the renowned San Diego Zoo where animals thrive in tropical jungles, African forests, and reproduced natural habitats serving as home to thousands of uncommon animals, some of which have been brought back from the very edge of extinction. San Diego Zoo
Enough can not be said about the splendour of the 100 acre San Diego Zoo. Found in Balboa Park in San Diego, California, the San Diego Zoo is home to over 800 species and 4,000 animals including the giant Panda. The zoo in San Diego is fanatical about preserving and rescuing species. At the zoo in San Diego endangered species are bred in in the zoo environment only to be released in their natural habitat. There are several animal zones for viewing animals in their natural environment at the San Diego Zoo. One of the most well liked animal sectors is the Polar Rim where visitors can see the Polar Bear, Arctic Aviary and Reindeer exhibits. Close by is Panda Canyon, which is home to the famous San Diego Zoo's Giant Pandas. The Lost Forest animal area is a tropical habitat for many endangered wildlife and includes hippos, monkeys, apes, and an enormous variety of birds. Youngsters are exposed to nature and fauna in a private way in the Discovery Outpost in the children's zoo, insect house, reptile house, crocodile and turtle exhibit, and the Sea Lion Show. Step into the magical Hummingbird House to look at hummingbirds enjoying life in an exotic indoor tropical jungle setting, complete with waterfalls.
SeaWorld
The most popular San Diego aquarium is located within SeaWorld. Visitors can walk through the planet's largest underwater tunnels to be surprised by sharks in their habitat as they swim overhead. Come face to face with Shamu and other killer whales as they swim up to the glass wall of their million-gallon pool. The most unusual and pretty aquariums in SeaWorld are the the California Tide Pools and the Cirque de la Mer. Visitors are astonished by the unusual and vibrant sea life on show in the Cirque de la Mer aquarium. The California Tide Pool gives visitors a remarkable opportunity to really reach in and touch the unique sea creatures that dwell in a tide pool, like star fish, sea urchins and anemones.
Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography
Another preferred San Diego aquarium is the Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography where giant aquariums bring the mystery of ocean life sufficiently close to touch with over 60 habitats stuffed with Pacific ocean life. Some preferred exhibits include "Kelp Forest, There's Something About Seahorses" and Coral Displays, Living Tide Pools where visitors can touch sea life, Shark Reef & Hall of Fishes, and much more. The Birch Aquarium is unique in that it concentrates on local San Diego coastal ocean life and also does conservation and research with the University of California at San Diego.
